Spence, Sacred Heart run past Dartmouth

The Pioneers (2-4) were able to take advantage of four Dartmouth turnovers to keep the Big Green (3-2) from posting victories against each of their three non-conference opponents this season.

Dartmouth led 10-6 after the first quarter, before Niko Sierra's interception of an Alex Park pass set up the Pioneers (2-4) at the Big Green's 21. Spence scored from the 10 three plays later.

His second touchdown came in the third quarter, after Dartmouth (3-2) punted from its 4. Tyler Dube returned it 29 yards to the Dartmouth 12, although an illegal block penalty pushed the Pioneers back to the 22. Two plays later, Spence scored from the 14.

Spence's final touchdown, from 11 yards out, came at the end of a 59-yard fourth-quarter drive on which he carried five times for 56 yards.

Pioneer quarterback Tim Little was  9 of 21 for 71 yards throwing the ball for 71 yards, but Sacred Heart was just as effective in harassing the two Big Green signal callers, Park and freshman Dalyn Williams. The Big Green duo combined to complete half of its passes (12 of 24) for 160 yards, but they were sacked three times and Park was picked off twice.

Dartmouth played without the Ivy League's second-leading rusher in junior Dominick Pierre (out with an ankle injury) and one of the league's top receivers in senior Michael Reilly (leg contusion).

Senior Garrett Waggoner led Dartmouth with eight tackles. Classmates Garrett Wymore and Mick Davis each had a sack.
