DURHAM -- Redshirt freshman Mike Kelly made five receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns as Team Cats defeated Team Wild, 24-7, in the University of New Hampshire football team's Blue-White Game on Tuesday afternoon at Cowell Stadium.

Freshman quarterback Chris McCormick (Winooski, Vt.) completed 7 of 11 passes for 108 yards with two TDs - both to Kelly. The first hookup went for 18 yards with 1:09 left in the first quarter to extend Team Cats' lead to 10-0; their second connection was a 34-yard score with 3:39 remaining in the second quarter for a 17-7 lead.

McCormick was the starting quarterback for Vermont in the 2011 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl.

Team Cats initiated the scoring on a 36-yard field goal off the foot of Anthony Guidice (Nashua) with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter to seize a 3-0 lead. Team Wild's lone touchdown came courtesy of a 4-yard scamper from sophomore QB Andy Vailas (Bedford) with 8:36 left in the second quarter to trim the margin to 10-7.

Vailas, who is competing with redshirt freshman Sean Goldrich (West Haven, Conn.) for the starting signal-caller job, finished the game 17 of 22 for 97 yards. Goldrich went 10-for-19 for 89 yards and two interceptions.

Freshman quarterback Adam Riese (Hamilton, N.J./5 of 8, 53 yards) accounted for the final touchdown of the day when he scored on a 1-yard keeper with 2:02 left in the third quarter.

Defense controlled the majority of play, forcing seven turnovers on four fumbles and three interceptions. Freshman defensive back Hayden Knudson (Alexandria, Va.) led the way with a team-high six tackles and an interception. Senior defensive tackle Jared Smith (Greencastle, Pa.) and redshirt freshman cornerback Lamar Edmonds (Worcester, Mass./four tackles) each snared INTs. Fumbles were forced by senior linebacker Matt Evans (Hanover, Mass./one tackle), sophomore linebacker Shane McNeely (Whitehall, Pa./three tackles), redshirt freshman safety Keith Parkinson (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./two tackles) and junior defensive tackle Jimmy Vailas (Bedford/one tackle).  

The intrasquad scrimmage marked the end of training camp for the 14th-ranked Wildcats, who will now turn their attention to their season opener at Holy Cross on Aug. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
