Londonderry's Griffin named to Mackey Watch List

Ryan Griffin.jpgUniversity of Connecticut redshirt-senior tight end Ryan Griffin was among those named to the 2012 John Mackey Award Watch List by the Nassau County Sports Commission on Tuesday.

The Mackey Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. The award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The winner will be announced on December 6 at the Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPNU.

Griffin,a Londonderry resident, is one of two BIG EAST tight ends named to the list, joining Hubie Graham of Pittsburgh.

Griffin was named a Second Team All-BIG EAST selection in 2011. He was Connecticut's third leading receiver with 33 receptions, three for touchdowns, and 499 yards.

Griffin was one of 25 tight ends named to the John Mackey award midseason watch list in 2011. Over his three year career, Griffin has 87 catches in 36 games for 1,016 receiving yards.
