BG's Johnson headed to Worcester Academy

Former Bishop Guertin football coach Tony Johnson has been approved to become the next football coach at Worcester Academy, according to a source close to the Worcester Academy program.

Johnson stepped down as BG's head coach last June, several months after guiding the Cardinals to their third consecutive Division II championship. BG won six Division II titles in Johnson's final seven years as the program's head coach..

Efforts to reach Johnson on Saturday were unsucessful

Johnson took over as BG's head coach in 1994. Former Manchester West coach Travis Cote was hired as Johnson's replacement last year and guided the Cardinals to another Division II championship.

Johnson, who is also BG's athletic director, coached outside linebackers at St. Anselm College last season.
