No. 2 Exeter vs. No. 1 Pinkerton

  • Team records: Exeter is 10-1 overall, 8-1 in Division I. Pinkerton is 10-1 overall, 9-0 in Division I.
  • Regular-season result: Pinkerton won, 42-16, in Exeter.
  • Noteworthy: Eliminating big plays by the Pinkerton offense is at the top of Exeter's to-do list. The Astros rushed for 453 yards on 27 carries in the earlier meeting between these teams. Three of Pinkerton's six touchdowns came on runs of 96, 80 and 67 yards. ... Senior running backs Emmitt Smith and Kevin Davies are Pinkerton's top threats, but sophomore Manny Lattimore is also capable a big plays, especially as a kick returner. Lattimore had a 76-yard TD run against Salem in last weekend's semifinal shortly after Salem had taken a one-point lead in the third quarter. Smith and Davies have each rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season ... Junior halfback Tyler Grant has been Exeter's go-to guy on offense. Grant rushed for a career-high 226 yards on 36 carries to help Exeter beat South last weekend. Grant has run for 1,103 yards on 193 carries this season. ... The Blue Hawks could also get a boost from junior Colby Swane, who didn't play in the first game against Pinkerton. Swane gives Exeter a big-play threat out of the backfield and as a kick-returner. ... Exeter quarterback Jamieson Tymann has completed 15 of 29 passes for 202 yards and five touchdowns. ... The Exeter defense has allowed 41 points in five games since the Pinkerton loss. The Blue Hawks have surrendered seven points in each of their last three games. ... Pinkerton is in the Division I championship game for the seventh time in the last eight years. The Astros beat Nashua North to win last year's title.

DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

No. 2 Dover vs. No. 1 Bishop Guertin

  • When and where: Saturday (1 p.m.) Stellos Stadium in Nashua.
  • Team records: Dover is 8-3 overall, 8-1 in Division I. BG is 8-3 overall, 8-1 in Division I.
  • Regular-season result: Bishop Guertin won 21-6 in Dover.
  • Noteworthy: Defense and special teams carried Bishop Guertin to victory during the regular-season meeting between these teams. C.J. Boykin returned a punt 45 yards for the only first-half TD, and Nick Marino returned an interception 23 yards for another TD in the third quarter. It was 21-0 before Dover got its offense in year. The Green Wave TD came on Kyle Seaward's 6-yard run with 6:18 to play. ... Dover quarterback Tyler Zabkar completed 15 of 28 passes for 183 yards in that game, but was intercepted twice. ... BG reached the Division II championship game for the eighth consecutive season. The Cardinals have won six titles during that time, including the last three. Dover will be playing in a championship game for the first time since 2002, when it dropped a 24-21 decision to Exeter. Dover's last state title came in 1996, when it beat Exeter 21-3. ... Both teams struggled in their semifinal games. Dover needed a last-second field goal to beat third-seeded Spaulding 24-21, and BG came from behind to knock off fourth-seeded Timberlane 29-26.

DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

No. 4 Portsmouth vs. No. 2 Bedford

  • When and where: Saturday (1 p.m.) at Bedford High School.
  • Team records: Portsmouth is 7-3 overall, 7-2 in Division II. Bedford is 7-3 overall, 7-2 in Division II.
  • Regular-season result: Bedord won 24-12 in Portsmouth.
  • Noteworthy: This is becoming an annual event for Portsmouth, which has appeared in -- and lost -- four of the last five Division III championship games. ... Portsmouth quarterback Billy Hartmann has completed 105 of 191 pass attempts for 1,711 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. He has also been intercepted 12 times, and three of those came during the regular-season loss to Bedord. ... Billy Lane is Portsmouth's leading rusher with 830 yards on 121 carries. ...  Bedford's spread offense is led by mobile quarterback James Caparell, running back Jordan Garron, and wide receivers Mike Gardiner, Dylan York and Brian Collins. ... Bedford won the program's first playoff game when it beat Hollis-Brookline 21-20 in last weekend's semifinals. Bedford stopped a Hollis-Brookline two-point converstion try late in the third quarter. Caparell ran for two TDs in the victory. ... The Bedford defense will get a boost from the return of linebackers David Cannone and Matt Dillon, both of whom missed last weekend's playoff game because of injury. ... Portsmouth, which knocked off top-seeded Goffstown in the semifinals, is seeking the program's first state title since 1981, when it beat Salem 14-7 in the Division I championship games. ...
