UNH's Ciccone moves to the end of the line
The following noteworthy item came out of University of New Hampshire's coach Sean McDonnell's weekly press conference Wednesday:
Redshirt freshman Brian Ciccone (pictured) has changed positions, moving from defensive end to tight end. Ciccone didn't play in UNH's 44-41 triumph over Lehigh on Sept. 10 because of a hamstring injury, but returned to practice this week in preparation for Saturday's game at Richmond.
"I think we'll have Brian Ciccone back," McDonnell said. "But you will not see Brian Ciccone at defensive end. You'll see him at tight end.
"When we lost [tight end Chris Jeannot] we contemplated moving him out. One of the bad things is during the off week [tight end] Harold Spears broke his leg, so Harold Spears is out four-to-six [weeks] or six-to-eight [weeks], depending on who you talk to."
Ciccone played wide receiver, tight end and running back at Manchester Essex HIgh School in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass. UNH recruited him to play tight end, but he was switched to defensive end last spring. He made two tackles in UNH's opener against Toledo.
Ciccone's father, Tony, played offensive line at UNH.
