UNH starts at No. 10
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of New Hampshire football team is ranked 10th in The Sports Network's FCS Preseason Top 25, which was released Monday.
The Wildcats, who finished 2010 as the No. 7 team in the nation, received one first-place vote. UNH has been ranked in the poll for 97 consecutive weeks, dating back to Sept. 13, 2004, the longest active streak in the CAA.
The Wildcats posted an 8-5 record last season, when they qualified for the NCAA Championship tournament for a nation-leading seventh straight season and advanced to the quarterfinals for the sixth time in that span.
The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 6 (Sept. 6) and set a school record by defeating five ranked opponents during the season. Defending national champion Eastern Washington (90 first-place votes) is the preseason No. 1 team. Appalachian State (14), William & Mary (20), Georgia Southern (11) and national runner-up Delaware (2) round out the top 5.
UNH will kick off its season at Toledo, an FBS school, on Sept. 1 (7 p.m.).
