Head coaches: Lebanon's Chris Childs is the New Hampshire head coach. Champlain Valley Union coach Jim Provost will be guiding Vermont.

Noteworthy: There's a familiar storyline entering this year's game: Can Vermont find a way to keep things competitive and perhaps pull out a victory? Vermont has lost the last 10 games and failed to scored more than seven points in six of those losses. New Hampshire has prevailed in 27 of the last 30 contests. .... This year's game features the Gatorade Player of the Year from each state: Rice quarterback Christian McCormick (Vermont), and Salem running back Max Jacques (Salem). ... McCormick completed 262 passes for 2,619 yards and 37 touchdowns last fall, when he guided Rice to the Division II championship. He was intercepted three times. Jacques holds the Salem record for career rushing yardage (4,559). He ran for 1,904 yards and 26 touchdowns last fall. ... New Hampshire won't have Lebanon running back Cody Patch, who suffered a cracked rib in practice last weekend and won't play in the game "It was my decision," Childs said. "I wouldn't be feeling too good about myself if he got hurt in this game." Patch will play football at Dartmouth. ... Provost served as Vermont's coach in the 1990 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl, a 35-0 New Hampshire victory. Provost was the head coach at Rice Memorial at the time. ... Childs, who led Lebanon to its first state championship last season, represented Lebanon in the 1995 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl. ... New Hampshire has 57 varsity programs. Vermont has 34.
