Salem logo.pngSalem High School running back Max Jacques (above left) has signed a letter of intent and will play football at Marist College, a Division I (FCS) program located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Jacques, who won the 2010 New Hampshire Mr. Football Award, ran for 1,904 yards and 26 touchdowns last season, when Salem earned the No. 4 seed for the Division I playoffs. He helped the Blue Devils win the Division I state championship during his junior year.

"I've never had anybody like Max," Salem coach Jack Gati said at the Mr. Football awards ceremony. "That encompasses everything. Not only what he did on the field, but his attitude, his work ethic, his leadership skills -- by far better than anybody I've ever had.

"The things he did on the field are no surprise. As small as he is (5-foot-6, 160 pounds) he runs with power. He's the total package as a running back -- and I've had some good ones who run hard, but I've never had one with his speed and his quickness."

Jacques owns the Salem High School career records for touchdowns (57), rushing TDs (55), points scored (348) and all-purpose yardage (5,737).

Marist is coached by Jimmy Parady, whose father Ken coached at Laconia and Nashua.
