New Hampton's Messier signs with Wagner
After playing two seasons of football at New Hampton School, Kevin Messier will continue his football career at Wagner College in Staten Island, New York. Messier signed a national letter of intent this week as part of earning an athletic scholarship at Wagner, which competes in the Football Championship Subdivision.
Messier, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound lineman, helped lead New Hampton to two NEPSAC Bowl appearances in the last two years and anchored the offensive and defensive lines as the Huskies won the Austin Bowl in 2009. Messier, earned First-Team All-Conference honors from the Evergreen Conference as well as a spot on the All-New England Prep Team, was being courted by a number of programs, but said Wagner was the best fit.
"It's a good fit academically, a smaller school, I like New York City and it has a great football program," Messier said. "The last two seasons at New Hampton got me prepared physically and mentally. We play against better competition and I think we have one of the best coaching staffs in New England. they really prepare us for the next level. They run practices like college practices."
