Shrine logo.jpgWINDSOR, Vt. - Lebanon High School' s Chris Childs has been named New Hampshire's head coach for the 2011 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl. Jim Provost of Champlain Valley Union will serve as Vermont's head coachh.

The 2011 game will be played Aug. 6 at Windsor (Vt.) High School.

Childs guided Lebanon to an 11-0 record and New Hampshire's Division IV state championship last season. Childs played in the 1995 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl following a stellar career at Lebanon in which he was a two-time all state selection in football. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Windsor High School in 1999 and then served as an assistant at Stevens High in Claremont. He was named Lebanon's head coach in 2006.

On the Vermont side, Provost is no stranger to the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl either, having served as Vermont's head coach in 1990.  He is a graduate of Rice Memorial High School in Burlington and the University of Vermont.

Provost was named head coach at Rice Memorial for 14 years before taking over the coaching reigns at Champlain Valley four years ago. His Redhawks were runner-ups for the Division II state title in 2009 and reached the semifinals this year. He was named Vermont State Coach of the Year in 2009.

Over 200 players from Vermont and New Hampshire, all graduating high school seniors, have been nominated by their respective head coaches, and screening committees, chaired by the two head coaches, will select the two 36-man teams. The two teams will be announced in late January.

The two Shrine teams will again practice at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden for eight days leading up to the annual summer classic on Aug. 6.
