UNH/Bethune-Cookman: Some initial thoughts

UNH logo.jpgItems pulled from Monday's Colonial Athletic Association teleconference, which featured University of New Hampshire head coach Sean McDonnell and UNH senior running back Sean Jellison (Amherst/Souhegan High School):

> The first question McDonnell fielded was about UNH offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey, and how he was dealing with the death of his sister, Denise, who passed away last Tuesday at age 41 because of a brain aneurysm.

"It's a very tough situation for Timmy," McDonnell said. "The one good thing was Timmy was able to get out of here, go home and see the rest of his family and get with them. He was there Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and came back late Saturday. He'll miss practice here Wednesday and Thursday to do what he has to do and be with his family. I think it's a little bit of a godsend that he has something to do to keep his mind off it."

> McDonnell on Bethune-Cookman, UNH's playoff opponent Saturday: "First of all they're explosive on both sides of the ball. The quarterback is the guy that makes everything go in that offense. They're averaging 39, 40 points per game. The thing that jumps out at me is how good they are with the football. They've only turned it over 11 times. Team speed jumps out and efficiency with the football. Defensively they've created 29 turnovers. They swarm to the football. They get there and they get the ball out, either by stripping it or by interceptions."

> Jellison on the Bethune-Cookman defense: "Their defense is very athletic. They're No. 1 in the country in turnover margin and taking away the football, so if we hang onto the football we should definitely have a chance."

> McDonnell said running back Dontra Peters (high ankle sprain) practiced on a limited basis Sunday and that he expects Peters to play in Saturday's game.

> Jellison on UNH's running back situation: "We feel we have a lot of depth. Chad (Kackert0 was definitely a little faster than Dontra and probably a lot faster than me, but Dontra brings a whole new aspect to the game. He's real athletic. He's real elusive. Whenever he gets the ball in his hands he can make people miss and make something happen. I think it's been a little more physical ,in terms of finishing runs, than we were last year."
