Plymouth State's Castellucci earns NEFC honor
PLYMOUTH - Brian Castellucci, a senior linebacker on the Plymouth State University football team, has been honored by the New England Football Conference for the third time in five weeks, recognizing his performance in last Saturday's shutout victory over Nichols College.
Castellucci, who lives in Derry and played at Pinkerton Academy, was named to the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his performance in Saturday's 17-0 victory over Nichols College.
Castellucci led Plymouth State's defense in the shutout as the Panthers limited the Bison to 127 total yards on 50 plays. He made 11 tackles (six solo), including one tackle for loss, as PSU posted its second shutout in the last three games. Nichols had fewer than 100 total yards until gaining 41 on its last drive in the fourth quarter.
A First Team All-NEFC pick in 2009, Castellucci was also an NEFC Honor Roll selection on Sept. 6 and Sept. 20 of this season after Panther victories over Castleton State College and Bridgewater State University. He ranks eighth in the 16-team NEFC with 8.8 tackles per game.
The Panthers, 4-1 overall, 2-0 in the Boyd Division and tied for seventh in the New England Division III poll, travel to Cambridge, Mass., this Saturday for a 2 p.m. game at MIT.
