Timberlane logo.pngPLAISTOW -- What do you get when you mix a heavy dose of Nick Lawrence with five Winnacunnet High School turnovers?

That recipe produced a 26-14 Timberlane victory Friday night.

Lawrence, a senior running back, rushed for 334 yards and four touchdowns.

"We certainly showed we can compete with the better teams in the division," Lawrence said. "I beleive we're definitely up there with BG and Winnacunnet. We just have to keep working hard and maybe we'll play in the championship."

Winnacunnet (6-1 overall, 4-1 in Division II) fumbled the ball away five times. Four of those fumbles came in the first half, when all of the scoring occurred. The Owls (4-3, 4-1) scored on the possession that followed Winnacunnet's first three turnovers.

Winnacunnet's fourth fumble came with 11.4 seconds left in the first half. Timberlane completed a halfback pass inside the 1-yard line as time expired in the half.

"Can't have the turnovers, and we didn't tackle well," Winnacunnet coach Ron Auffant said. "In the first half our defense was awful."

Lawrence scored on TD runs of 63, 22, 37 and 52 yards. Lawrence's third and fourth touchdown run each came one play after a Winnacunnet fumble.

"Our kids feel real good and they should," Timberlane coach Kevin Fitzgerald said. "They played great tonight. We did some nice things both offensively and defensively."

Winnacunnet led 14-6 after Brett Taylor scored on a 15-yard run and Ben Fee kicked the PAT with 11:55 left in the second quarter. Winnacunnet's other TD came on an 11-yard run by quarterback Steve Cronan on the Warriors' first possession.

Lawrence responded with three TD runs in the second quarter.

Winnacunnet drove deep into Timberlane territory on each of its first two second-half possession. The first possession ended with Winnacunnet's fifth fumble, and the second possession ended when the Warriors failed to convert on a fourth-and-two play.

"We have to regoup," Auffant said. "Our true character will show in the next three weeks."
