Jellison, who was the team's second-leading rusher last season (424 yards on 97 carries), was among at least a handful of impact players who did not participate in the scrimmage. The others included defensive back Dino Vasso and offensive linemen George Pecoraro and Seth Price.

"Jellison has a turf toe, Vasso has a hamstring," UNH coach Sean McDonnell said. "Pecararo has a concussion and he's getting through it. He's gonna play, but there's no sense in playing him right now.

"Price had (shoulder) surgery in July. It could be a three-to-six-week (recovery). We're being very precautionary about it. He's not practicing right now. He will practice when his strength and everything come back. Not sure when that will be, but anticipate it will be before the first game. And if not he'll be there for the second game."

Place-kicker Mike MacArthur also did not participate. McDonnell said MacArthur suffered an ankle injury in practice Wednesday.

Jellison, who set New Hampshire state records for touchdowns and rushing yardage during his career at Souhegan High School. has battled injuries throughout his college career. He played in all 13 games last season, after appearing in 19 during hsi first two seasons at UNH.

UNH's depth chart at running back includes sophomore Dontra Peters, redshirt freshman Derek Coppola and redshirt freshman Chris Setian.

True freshman Nico Steriti also had some impressive runs in the scrimmage.

"Nico Steriti -- you can see the signs of him being a good running back," McDonnell said. "He's gotta learn how to be a good running back at the college level. That's not an easy thing to do.

"Today I wanted to see how our offensive line, which is really beat up, handled some things. We got a lot of work to do up front."
