The Keene High School football community took a double hit last week with the
death of two men who played big roles in the Elm City's football history: Lindsey Borden and Scott Cote.
Borden, who passed away at his home, was the fullback on the 1970 Keene team that won the Division I state championship. That team was coached by Mike
Ginolfi. The Blackbirds shared the title with Manchester Central.
Borden was also an outstanding baseball player for both Keene High School and Gordon-Bissell Post 4. His brother Leroy had a brief pro baseball career in the Cleveland Indians organization.
Lindsey Borden had also been a long time Keene Knights Pop Warner
football coach.
Scott Cote moved into the Keene area from Massachussetts 20 years ago. Nine years ago Cote and some friends founded the Monadnock Marauders semi-pro football team.Cote did double duty as both a player and the team's general manager. One of the first
things Cote did was partner the team with the Monadnock United Way. Marauder games on Saturday nights routinely drew 800-1000 fans to Monadnock Regional High School. Cote was the Marauders driving force who made the team an integral part of the
Monadnock Region's sports scene and a vital part of the community. Cote died from cancer after a courageous three-year battle at age 46.
"The Press Box " talk show on WEEI 93.5-FM hosted by Bob Lund, Steve McCormack and Jared Goodell has dedicated tonight's show (5-7 p.m.) to the memory of both Lindsey
Borden and Scott Cote.
