Fund established for Nashua North's Doucette

A donor fund has been established to receive financial contributions in support of injured Nashua High School North football player Cooper Doucette.

Granite State Credit Union operates a financial branch in the high school as part of the business and marketing curriculum and will be hosting the fund; however, donors may submit contributions to any of the nine Granite State Credit Union branches around southern New Hampshire.

Contributions should be sent to The SuperCoop Fund, c/o Nashua High School North, ATTN: GSCU, 10 Chuck Druding Drive, Nashua, NH  03063. Checks should be made payable to the SuperCoop Fund, and any questions regarding the fund can be directed to the school principal or GSCU.

Doucette suffered a severe neck injury at practice on Aug. 14 when he made contact with another playing resulting in a broken cervical vertebra causing paralysis from the mid-torso on down through his body. The high school sophomore has been at Boston Children's Hospital since that time where he underwent a lengthy surgical procedure on Wednesday to stabilize the cervical spine and protect the spinal cord. At this time Doucette is involved in generally scheduled post-operative physical therapy and there has been no prognosis released relative to the paralysis. He is with his family and reported to be good spirits.

There has been an outpouring of support for the Doucette Family from not only the high school community but the greater community at-large. Emails and phone calls of positive thoughts and wishful thinking have surrounded the family and word of his tragic accident has spread quickly. People from all over have reached out to offer their services in an effort to relieve the burden of travel and expenses from the family, including a family in Lexington, Mass. which has offered the guest room in their home to the student-athletes' parents for overnight stay.

Fundraising efforts are underway now that a fund has been established. Two separate screen-printing companies are providing shirts for supporters to wear and sell as part of a fund drive while still others put together plans to raise as much money as possible to help this family through this ordeal. All questions about the fund can be directed to the school principal (603) 589-6000 or any GSCU branch.
