Portsmouth High School wide receiver Mike Montville said Tuesday that his commitment to play Division I baseball at the University of Maryland won't prevent him from participating in this summer's Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl.
Montville is one of 36 players on the New Hampshire roster. New Hampshire will face Vermont in the all-star football game on Aug. 7 at Windsor (Vt.) High School. Practice for both New Hampshire and Vermont will begin July 29 at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden.
"I still plan to play," Montville said. "My coach at Maryland (Eric Bakich) likes aggressive players and told me to go for it. He loves football."
Montville was Portsmouth's leading receiver in his junior and senior seasons. He caught 60 passes for 1,182 yards last season, including 12 receptions for 207 yards when Portsmouth lost to Souhegan in the Division III championship game.
New Hampshire stretched its winning streak to nine games by posting a 40-6 victory over Vermont last summer. New Hampshire leads the all-time series 41-13-2.
