USA Today's national high school tournament is down to eight teams: Don Bosco Prep (N.J), Good Counsel (Md.), Abilene (Texas), Highlands (Ky.), Cardinal Mooney (Ohio), Detroit Cathloic Central (Mi.), Servite (Calif.) and Hamilton (Az.).
The teams will play computer-simulated games every day until a national champion is determined Saturday. HighSchoolSports.net selected a state champion from each state and USA Today completed the field by choosing 14 at-large teams. The field is split into four regions that correspond to the regions used for USA Today's Super 25 high school rankings.
Bishop Guertin, which has won the last two Division II state championships, was the only New Hampshire team selected to participate in the tournament. BG, which was seeded No. 12 in the East Region, lost to fifth-seeded Freeport (N.Y.) in the opening round.
The other New England teams selected to the field were No. 8 Xaverian Brothers (Mass.), No. 11 Notre Dame (Conn.), No. 13 Leavitt (Maine), No. 15 Barrington (R.I.) and No. 16 Essex (Vt.).
