Vieira named a captain at Curry

Running back/defensive back Bruce Vieira, who helped the Pelham High School football team win state championships in 2007 and 2008, has been named a captain for the 2010 Curry College football team.

Vieira, who will be a sophomore, played in eight games for Curry last season. He rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 44 carries, and caught four passes for 33 yards. He also returned four kicks for 71 yards and made six tackles.

"Bruce is an outstanding leader with tremendous loyalty to his teammates and coaches," Curry coach Skip Bandini said. "He leads by performance and desire, he will be one of the finest leaders in Curry College football history."

Vieira rushed for 3,957 yards and scored 78 touchdowns during his high school career.
