Dover's Duval claims postseason honor

Duval (pictured) is one of 76 Division III players from the NCAA East Region to be recognized in voting by the region's sports information directors and D3football.com staff.  Duval, a Dover resident, was honored last month with selection as New England Football Conference Boyd Division Offensive Lineman of the Year and First Team All-Star.

A 6-foot-4, 364-pound right tackle, Duval anchored a Panther offensive line that paved the way for PSU's powerful running game. The Panthers ran the ball on 535 of its 648 plays from scrimmage, averaging 4.8 yards per rush and 255 yards per game on the ground. And while PSU threw only 113 passes, the offensive line allowed only eight sacks in 10 games this year. Duval also got into the scoring act for Plymouth State, lining up at quarterback and rushing for a 3-yard touchdown in PSU's 48-30 victory over Nichols College in October.

Duval is the fourth Panther in the past three years to earn All-East Region honors from D3football.com.  Running back Jeff Mack was honored in both 2007 and 2008, and last year's PSU selections included defensive end Jim Sestito and offensive guard Joe Duval, Zac's older brother.

Plymouth State finished 8-3 overall under seventh-year head coach Paul Castonia. The Panthers finished in second place in the NEFC Boyd Division with a 6-1 mark, and made their third straight post-season appearance against Springfield College in the ECAC Northeast Bowl.
