Unbeaten prep teams will meet in New Hampton
New Hampton -- New Hampton School's Kennedy Field will be the setting for one of the most anticipated football games of the year in New England on Saturday night when New Hampton School (6-0) plays host to Kimball Union Academy (6-0) in an Evergreen League showdown at 6 p.m. under the lights.
New Hampton is coming off a 46-22 victory over Proctor Academy last weekend in which the Huskies came back from a 15-0 deficit to a pull out a win that included returns for touchdowns on a punt, a fumble recovery, and an interception.
The Huskies, who are averaging 46 points per contest and are holding opponents to an average of eight points, are led by senior running backs Jet Kollie (Lowell, Mass.) and Al-Tawan Jenkins (St. Albans, N.Y.). Sophomore quarterback Jake Kiley (Plymouth) poses a dual threat to defenses, with 6-foot-2 wide receiver Paul Brown (Dover/St. Thomas Aquinas) his biggest target.
Kiley, who also starts on defense, threw for 162 yards (10 for 13) and a touchdown and ran for two more TDs in the victory over Proctor. The defense is anchored by lineman Andrew Lebowitz (Andover, Mass.), linebacker Eric Dean (Gilford), defensive back Tyler Hill (Plymouth), and safety Alex White (Brockton, Mass.).
Kimball Union comes into Saturday night's game on the heels of a decisive 41-7 victory over Tilton on Saturday. Tilton was previously undefeated.
KUA, which beat NHS 44-15 a year ago, has a big line with two international students leading the way. Luke Robinson (Sydney, Australia) is 6-foot-3, 245 pounds, and Robert King (Denmark) is 6-foot-2, 285 pounds. Both will try to provide holes for running backs Sean Miller and Bryant Fitzpatrick.
Admission is free.
