Exeter I, BG II

When Bishop Guertin and Exeter meet Saturday night at Stellos Stadium, it could be the last time the teams face each other until at least 2012.

According to a member of the NHIAA football committee, Exeter will move from Division II to Division I next season, and BG will remain in Division II. Teams will not be realigned again until after the 2011 season.

"BG could have gone to (Division) I, but chose to stay in (Division) II," the committee member said. "If BG had gone up, Exeter would probably have remained in Division II."

BG is a Division III school by enrollment, but usually petitions the NHIAA to compete in Division II for football. Peitions were turned in earlier this week, and, according to the committe member, BG petitioned to play in Division II. The NHIAA football committee met Wednesday.

BG, a private school located in Nashua, has won four of the last five Division II championships and is 9-0 entering Saturday's game against Exeter.

Had BG moved to Division I it would have been in a league with two other Nashua schools -- Nashua South and Nashua North. As a Division I program, the Cardinals could have played as many as seven regular-season games at Nashua's Stellos Stadium in one season.
