According to the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill, N.J., St. Augustine Prep quarterback Dustin Thomas gave a verbal commitment Monday to attend Villanova University.

The University of New Hampshire, Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Rhode Island and Akron were among the other schools recruiting Thomas, a senior who is one TD pass shy of becoming southern New Jersey's all-time leader in that category.

"They run an offense that is similar to what we run here,'' Thomas told to the Courier-Post. "I'm really excited to get a chance to see how the game changes when you get to college. Hopefully I'll make a difference and lead them to a national championship.

"It's a great decision, a great conference and a great football school,'' added St. Augustine coach Dennis Scuderi Sr. "I told him you have to go where you think you can play, and he can play there.''

Thomas is the Cape-Atlantic League's all-time leader in career passing yards (5,124) and touchdown passes (64).

Thomas has completed 36 of 59 passes for 828 yards this season. He has thrown 13 touchdown passes and one interception.
