1. Plymouth's winning streak

The Bobcats extended their streak to 49 games with a 35-0 victory over Hanover on Saturday. Among high school teams that play 11-man football, Plymouth has the nation's second longest winning streak.

Smith Center (Kan.) extended its winning streak to 72 games by beating Ellis, 16-10, over the weekend.

Wayne Hills (Wayne, N.J.) owned a 55-game winning streak dating back six seasons, but suffered a 17-15 loss to St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) on Friday night.

Plymouth's last loss came against Souhegan in the 2004 Division III semifinals (28-10).

The national record for longest winning streak is 151 games, set by De La Salle (Concord, Calif.).

2. Big-game hunting

The most interesting game on this weekend's high school schedule is the Division IV contest between Plymouth and Laconia that will be played Saturday in Plymouth.

Both teams are unbeaten in Division IV. Plymouth is 5-0 overall, and 4-0 in the division. Laconia is 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the division. Laconia's only loss was a 37-7 setback against Division III Souhegan.

Plymouth defeated Laconia in last year's Division IV championship game.

3. Homecoming at UNH

The Wildcats entered the weekend ranked sixth in the nation, but will likely move up thanks to Villanova's 28-17 triumph over No. 5 William & Mary on Saturday.

Villanova (5-0, 2-0 CAA), currrently the No. 2 team in the country, will face UNH (4-0, 1-0) on Saturday in front of a homecoming crowd at Cowell Stadium (noon).

4. Running to victory

The spread offense may be in vogue, but moving the ball on the ground seems to be working fine for both Salem and Inter-Lakes.

Inter-Lakes received 302 yards on 21 carries from Kevin Brady and improved to 5-0 in Division V with a 50-24 victory over Gilford on Saturday.

Salem's Max Jacques rushed for 337 yards on 21 carries to help Salem improve to 5-0 (4-0 in Division I) by beating Nashua South, 49-35, Saturday.

Inter-Lakes and Salem are among the 10 unbeaten high school teams remaining in the state. The others are Nashua North (Division I), Bishop Guertin (Division II), Exeter (Division II), Souhegan (Division III), Plymouth (Division IV), Bow (Division V), Trinity (Division V) and Winnisquam (Division VI).

5. J.J. Brooks

Brooks, who played quarterback at Winnacunnet High School, passed for three touchdowns and ran for another in Plymouth State's 38-21 victory over Western New England College on Saturday.

Brooks has completed 29 of 50 passes for 552 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He's also rushed for 323 yards on 80 carries.
