PSU's Mulcahy honored for defensive effort

PSU logo.jpgPlymouth State University defensive back Christian Mulcahy has been recognized by the New England Football Conference for his efforts in Saturday's season opener, a five-overtime 41-35 loss at Saint Anselm College.

Mulcahy, a sophomore, was named NEFC Defensive Player of the Week for the first week of the season. He made 11 tackles against the Hawks, including a team-high eight solo stops.  He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble (30-yard return), and grabbed one interception (19-yard return).

Mulcahy was also active on special teams, averaging 30 yards on his three punts, returning two kickoffs for 34 yards, and converting three of six field goal attempts to tie the school record for field goals in a game.

Plymouth State will play Mount Ida College in Plymouth on Saturday (1 p.m.).
