UNH logo.jpgWhat has long been rumored was reported as fact by the Manchester Union Leader on Wednesday: Offensive lineman Josh Lane has parted ways with the University of New Hampshire football program.

According to the Union Leader, Lane told UNH coach Sean McDonnell earlier this week that he wouldn't be returning to the program. Lane redshirted last season and would have had four years of eligibility remaining.

It was the second hit the UNH offensive line has taken recently. Sophomore Jayson Elmore told McDonnell last week that he plans to give up football and transfer to a school in Pennsylvania.

After the Blue/White scrimmage in May, McDonnell said there was an excellent chance Elmore would start this season. Lane was among those expected to compete for playing time.

Lane played at Pinkerton Academy in Derry, where he helped the Astros win three Division I state championships. He was one of five finalists for New Hampshire's Mr. Football Award following his senior season. He also represented New Hamshire in the 2008 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl.
