Nickel Package: See the Astros run
Five items on the New Hampshire football landscape:
1. Stat men
As was announced on this site last week, New Hampshire Football Report has entered into a partnership with MaxPreps, the nation's premier high school sports site. The MaxPreps logo in the black box above the archives will take readers to pages that provide schedules, results, up-to-date standings, statistics and MaxPreps team rankings.
At this point the statistics page is not comprehensive. It includes only information provided by team representatives. Anyone willing to enter team statistics can do so by clicking on the Coach Handbook at the bottom of the statistics page. At present, only a handful of teams are taking advantage of this resource. Any questions can be sent to rbrown@nhfootballreport.com.
2. Pinkerton puts it on the line
Those who attended Pinkerton Academy's 31-12 triumph over Londonderry on Saturday night had to be impressed with Pinkerton's offensive line. The Astros had 33 yards of offense, and all but 25 yards came on the ground.
"I thought our offensive line came of age tonight," Pinkerton coach Brian O'Reilly said.
Pinnkerton fullback Chris George rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Eric Guinto added 93 yards and two touchdowns on seven rushing attempts.
George saw limited playing time earlier this season because of a broke finger that required surgery.
"Our line did a great job," George said. "They were coming off the ball and those guys were giving us a great push."
Guinto has rushed for 525 yards and scored 11 touchdowns this season.
"He doesn't need to have the ball a lot to make big plays," Londonderry coach Jon Rich said. "He's a home run hitter."
A full story on the Pinkerton/Londonderry game will be posted on MaxPreps today.
3. College menu
This weekend's college schedule: St. Anselm at Merrimack (Friday, 7 p.m.); Plymouth State at Endicott (Saturday, noon); William & Mary at UNH (Saturday, noon); and Yale at Dartmouth (Saturday, 12:30 p.m.). The Yale-Dartmouth game can be seen on NESN.
4. No place like Laconia
This weekend's marquee high school matchup will take place Friday night, when Plymouth travels to Laconia. These are the only unbeaten teams remaining in Division IV. Each team is 4-0 within the division.
Plymouth is 5-0 overall. Laconia is 4-1 overall. Laconia's only loss came against Souhegan, which is unbeaten in Division III.
The game will feature the top offenses in Division IV. Plymouth has scored a league-high 200 points. Laconia is second with 184.
Kennett has allowed the fewest points in the division (41). Plymouth is second (48) and Laconia is third (60).
It'll be no surprise if these teams meet in the Division IV championship game.
5. Portsmouth's broken records
Portsmouth quarterback Mike Fransoso set a school record for completions (29) and pass attempts (50) in Friday night's 28-21 loss to Souhegan. Fransoso has thrown eight TD passes in four games this season.
