Philistin shines in scrimmage
Senior linebacker Dave Philistin (pictured) made a team-high seven tackles in the first of three preseason intra-squad scrimmages for the University of Maryland football team Saturday. The scrimmage capped the first week of practice for the Terrapins.
Philistin, who was a three-year starter at Manchester Central, is projected by some scouts as a possible late-round selection in the 2009 NFL draft. Philistin averaged a league-best 11.8 tackles per contest in eight Atlantic Coast Conference games last season.
