It's time for UNH to get defensive
Although the team will be breaking in a new quarterback (R.J. Toman), the biggest questions surrounding the 2008 University of New Hampshire football team are on defense.
As Tim O'Sullivan writes in Friday's Concord Monitor, the Wildcats surrendered 443.4 yards per game and 29.3 points per game last season. UNH's 2007 season ended when Northern Iowa drove 71 yards in a little over a minute to score the go-ahead touchdown in a 38-35 victory.
During media day Tuesday, UNH coach Sean McDonnell said stopping the run is the area where UNH needs the most improvement. UNH allowed 187.7 rushing yards per game last season, which ranked 11th in the 12-team Colonial Athletic Association.
UNH returned eight players from last year's starting defense.
