Trinity elects to reschedule

When you look at Trinity High School's 2007 schedule your first thought may be that someone has made a mistake.
Home games against Bishop Brady, Newport, Bow, Campbell and Epping? A road game at Goffstown and no game against Central or West?
That isn't a Division I schedule, and Trinity is no longer a Division I program.
"We're playing an independent schedule this season," first-year Trinity coach John Trisciani said. "After that a decision will be made on where we'll play. I think it was a wise move to drop out of Division I. We don't have the kids to survive that schedule."
Trinity moved from Division II to Division I following the 2001 season. The Pioneers have a 3-45 record as a Division I program since that move.
Trisciani, 47, said one of his first goals will be increasing the number of players in the program. Seventeen players from last year's team are eligible to return.
"Trinity is not a place that's been drawing a lot of football-type kids, but we should have a good freshman class," Trisciani said. "I expect to see 20 (freshmen).
"Trinity did not lose a lot of games in the 1970s and 1980s, but things aren't what they once were. We are restarting things, and we're looking to step things up fast."
Trisciani, who graduated from Trinity in 1978, was hired in January. He spent the last five years as an assistant coach at Manchester Memorial and said he was attracted to the Trinity job because he wanted to run his own program.
Londonderry and Manchester Memoral are the only Division I teams on Trinity's schedule this season.
Kearsarge coach Dennis Hoffman, a member of the NHIAA football committee, said games against Trinity during the 2007 season will be treated as non-league contests.
"Teams are taking them on just so they'll have a schedule," Hoffman said.
According to Trisciani, Trinity is eyeing a move to Division V for the 2008 season.
"That's where we'll fall enrollment-wise," he said. "I think the administration made the right decision."
